All Occasion Cookies

By Ann Krause Everybody loves to have cookies laying around the house. They're the perfect snack food. Open up a bag or a box, dig your hand in, pop one out and pop it in your mouth. Maybe dunk it in a little milk before you do. When it comes to cookies, there are no hard and fast rules on which ones to buy or make and when to eat them. But are there cookies that are maybe better for certain times than others? In this article we'll give some suggestions on what cookies to have for certain times. If you're sitting on the couch watching TV and don't want to have to struggle with your cookie, then the last thing you probably want to be eating is an Oreo. Why? Well, most people like to twist them open and lick the cream out from the middle of the cookie. This can be a bit distracting when you're watching an episode of "24" where you have to keep your eye on everything that's going on. For something like that, which requires your full attention, you probably want to be snacking on cookies that you can just pop into your mouth right out of the box, like Teddy Grahams. They're small, easy to chew and can last you easily through an hour long TV show or even a 2 hour movie. What if you're a kid at school at lunch time? You've brought your bagged sandwich, got your carton of milk from the lunch room and for dessert, want to be munching on something that will not only taste great but also make you the most popular kid at the table, especially if you're brought along extra cookies for your friends. This is where you bust out the Oreos. There isn't a kid on the planet who doesn't love Oreo cookies. Or, if you really want to impress your friends with how cool your mom is, bring along a batch of her homemade chocolate chip cookies. Those will always do the trick. What about after you've had a really fancy meal and want to top it off with a couple of cookies? Well, if you've just chowed down on Filet Mignon and Lobster Tail, you probably want to top it off with a cookie worthy of such a meal. For this occasion, you probably want to get out a bag or box of Pepperidge Farm Cookies. Commercially, they're probably one of the better cookies around. They're big, hearty and hard to eat more than just a couple. These are cookies that are certain to leave you satisfied after a good meal. Maybe you're on a bit of a health kick and don't want all that sugar or chocolate. In this case, a bag of high quality oatmeal cookies, like Pepperidge Farm Oatmeal Raisin, will certainly do the trick. Or, you can bake your own and really put your own healthy touch on them with your own special ingredients. Yes, there are all kinds of cookies for all kinds of occasions and circumstances. Finding the one that's right for you should be a snap. A ginger snap, that is. The Hidden Secrets of Bad Credit Auto Loans

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kate_Ross]Kate Ross Almost 20% of customers have bad credit so its not strange that bad credit auto loans have become so popular. The financial industry always tends to provide solutions as long as the market is tempting enough and the auto loan market for people with bad credit meets this requirement. Shopping online Getting a loan from a regular lender with bad credit can be difficult. However there are many online auto loan lenders willing to consider bad credit applications. As the auto loan business becomes more and more competitive lenders tend to reduce the interest rate they charge even for bad credit loans. This is the reason why it is not strange to find affordable bad credit loans these days. So just search around the net for bad credit loan lenders and request as many loan quotes as possible to compare interest rates and other loan terms. This way you will be able to get the best deal available for you. Secured or Unsecured There are mainly two kind of bad credit auto loans, Secured auto loans and Unsecured auto loans. Secured auto loans require a form of collateral as a guarantee for the lender. This greatly reduces the interest rate charged compared to unsecured auto loans. On the other hand, unsecured auto loans do not require collateral driving away the risk of repossession. In order to decide which of these options is the best for you, you need to ponder the risk involved in the transaction if you use your home as collateral and the money you would save in interests. Repayment Length Repayment schedules can last between two to thirty years, it really depends on the borrowers income whether he should choose a shorter or longer repayment program. However, its always the best to keep it as short as possible as this will save you thousands of dollars in interest. Pay off the loan as early as possible is definitely a good advice. If you think you might make additional payments due to having a variable income, make sure there are no prepayment penalties within the loan terms as you may end up paying more just because you want to cancel your loan sooner. Down Payments Some lenders require down payments in order to provide finance for the purchase of a car. Nevertheless, there are many lenders out there willing to finance 100% of the vehicle value. Bare in mind though, that if you can raise some money and set it aside for a down payment, you'll be able to get a much better deal as lenders usually charge lower interest rates when the applicant is capable of making a down payment because it shows that you are able to save money and thus its more likely that youll be able to repay the loan without any problems. It's a great way to save thousands of dollars. Kate Ross is a professional consultant with fifteen years in the financial field. Are You Ready to Start a Weight Loss Program

By C Lynn Beebe Most people will regularly say they need to lose weight. Many of these same people start one or more weight loss program each year. However, few of them give any thought to whether they are actually ready to begin such a program. You may be thinking that anyone who wants to lose weight must be ready to start a diet. If they weren't, they wouldn't want to lose weight in the first place, right? Being ready to start losing weight requires that one be in the proper mindset or it is nearly impossible to achieve success. By having the proper mindset, or attitude, toward weight loss it is much easier to maintain the motivation necessary to stick with a program. So how does a person know if they have the mindset required for success on their weight loss plan? The first step is to make a list of all the reasons for losing weight that matter to the person who will be losing the weight. Good reasons for losing weight for one person may not carry enough meaning for someone else to make a difference. Once a list has been made, the potential dieter needs to decide how important these reasons are. If they fall in the "would be nice" category they are probably not strong enough to provide any motivation for staying on a plan for very long. However, if they represent a dream or something the person has always wanted, there is a better chance of reaching the necessary level of motivation for a successful weight loss program. If the reasons are valid and meaningful, the next step is to set some goals. Normally a goal for someone wanting to lose weight will be "I want to lose weight" or "I want to lose thirty pounds." While this may be a good start, it is not nearly specific enough. An overall long-term goal might be "I want to lose thirty pounds in six months." When a big picture goal has been set it is time to break that goal down into smaller pieces and set sub-goals. Setting smaller, more manageable goals will result in a greater likelihood of success. Each sub-goal should be in writing and list specific results to be achieved, the steps necessary to be taken and the time frame required. Goals should be reviewed at the beginning of each day as a reminder of what needs to be done and they should also be revisited at the end of the day to verify that everything was accomplished. Momentum will be gained with every success realized from reaching the sub-goals which will result in continued motivation. Having goals and putting them into a written plan provides both a roadmap and a sense of accountability for someone on a weight loss program. Be sure that any weight loss program you consider includes a motivation component. While diet and exercise are certainly important and must be addressed as well, having the proper motivation is a preliminary requirement for expecting success with a new weight loss program. How to Use Trade Show Giveaways to Deliver Results

By Jules Sowder At first glance, an exhibit hall seems like a treasure trove for prospecting. Yet, with all the distractions of the show and your competition vying for the attention of the attendees, interest-grabbers like unique trade show giveaways or promotional items can help draw booth traffic, create recall after the show, and provide contact information in a memorable way to prospects. Yet, not all promotional items are worth your investment and some even may prove detrimental to your success. So how do you pick trade show giveaways that further your objectives without burdening your budget? First, you need to define what you hope to achieve with your trade show giveaways, in addition to attracting people to your booth. You may see your promotional items as a way to increase awareness, introduce a new product line, provide helpful tips, or communicate your contact information in a unique way. Then, based on your goals for your trade show giveaways, you need to find a promotional item that is unique, complementary to your product, and accurately reflects the image you need to portray. As you evaluate your options, consider the following: Does the item complement your product image and theme?
Do the giveaways you want to purchase fit within your budget?
Are you able to imprint your key contact information and message on the trade show promotional item?
Will you be able to get your shipment in time for the event?
Is your giveaway unique and different from others youve seen?
Is the item something YOU would like to have? There are many premium specialty companies that can provide counsel to you. You can source these companies through your local chamber of commerce, yellow pages, web search, exhibit company, or professional referral. Whether you select paper pads, bouncing balls, ice scrapers or miniature globes, it is essential that your giveaways have a connection to your product. An alternative to a free promotional item is printing a tip sheet or brochure filled with practical ideas related to your target audiences needs and your product. Event visitors may be attracted to this type of tool because it serves a specific, helpful purpose. Then, at the show, hand out your giveaways selectively. Dont have them available for anyone to take. You also may ask your booth visitors to give you their business cards or other qualifying information to receive your gift. It will give the promotional item more meaning and help you with your post-show follow-up initiatives. Tips On Growing And Caring For Orchids

By Lee Dobbins Orchids are fascinating flowers that are fun to nurture but do need some special care. These slow growing plants are best grown indoors and will need to be repotted every other year. In addition to repotting, you will need to provide the plant with enough light, water and fertilization as well as prune it properly to keep it in the best of health. Repotting Orchids should be repotted in a pot that is larger then the current, but not too much larger - go just one size up. Dont make the mistake of thinking you can repot into a really huge pot and then not have to worry about it for the next 5 years! Fill the pot about 2/3rds of the way with soil that is formulated for orchids and set the plant with the growing tip in the center and its roots spread out in the soil. Fill the pot with the rest of the soil and pack it gently around the plant. Water thoroughly. Soil Tropical orchids thrive in organic material. Fir bark and osumda fiber mixed with peat are great for growing orchids. You need soil that has good drainage but will also hold some moisture. You can buy special orchid mix soil to plant your orchids in. Light Orchids like light and your plant will do best in a bright sunny window. A south window, where the plant can get indirect light in the morning and afternoon is best. Make sure the window is not drafty. In the winter you must be sure that your plant is getting enough sunlight and you may want to use fluorescent lighting to supplement the natural sunlight. Fluorescent lights work quite well for growing orchids and you can use them in even the darkest corner and have wonderful plants. Water All plants need water but many people do not know how to provide it properly. Some water too much leaving standing water in the pot all day and contributing to root rot. Others dont water the plant for weeks and wonder why it can not survive. The first consideration is to make sure you use a pot with good drainage - either one of those with a hole in the bottom and a saucer or at least put pebbles under the soil. Water the plant thoroughly but not so much that a pool of water is sitting on the soil - water once a week or when you feel the soil has dried out. If your orchid is planted in bark, then it will probably need to be watered every 5 days or so. You can also moisten your orchid with a spray bottle to give it a more humid environment. Some people like to gently wrap the plant in a floral paper or wax paper cone and spray inside. The cone helps to keep the moistness in. If you do spray your plant, use distilled water as tap and spring water can leave deposits on the leaves. Temperature Although orchids are tropical plants, they prefer cool temperatures at night. Most orchids will do best in temps that would be to cold for you in your house. When grown in professional greenhouses, they are kept between 55 and 65 degrees at night. The cool temperatures help to keep the soil more moist. Fertilizer Orchids growing in bark or peat and bark mixes do best with a liquid fertilizer that has a 20-20-20 analysis or, better yet, a specialized orchid fertilizer (30-10-10). Try using a water soluble urea free fertilizer for best results. When fertilizing, simply add it in your regular watering schedule following the instructions on the fertilizer package. Pruning Pruning is important for orchids to remove dead parts and shape your plant. You can prune your orchids periodically throughout the year, or reserve the pruning for once a year typically in the fall or early winter. When the blooms have died and the stalk is dried up and yellow or brown, use sharp shears to cut it back to an inch from where it comes out of the soil. A new bloom will appear during the next blooming season. In some cases, you may want to just remove the end of the bloom stalk which may cause it to bloom again. If you do this, you may find a new shoot or baby plant to spring up. If this does happen, you can remove the baby and plant it in a separate pot for an additional orchid plant to enjoy! People Ask Which is the Best Natural Pain Remedy?

By J. Cutler If one searches the web looking for the right natural pain relief, it is likely to get a bit confusing as there are about 2,630,000 web pages to chose from. When people search the web for products or services they seldom search all the pages to decide which they are going to use. With that many pages on natural pain relief they could spend a lifetime reading before deciding on the right one for them. Not all pain is the same and internal organ pain and external muscular or joint pain need different approaches. Internal organ pain needs a doctor's opinion to make quite sure that it isn't something serious like a cancer, which, in turn, would need a totally different treatment regimen. Muscle or joint and ligament pain on the other hand respond to a number of other topical methods of treatment. The old stand by of heat and ice alternately still work well, but new developments like a natural spray made exclusively of natural ingredients has a much quicker result and with continued use often handles the pain permanently. Pain can cause a dramatic lowering in our quality of life. Finding effective relief makes all the difference. With so many advertisements for pain remedies on TV and magazines, we often take the easy way out and use off-the-shelf products that every grocery store stocks, ignoring the side effects that many of these products can cause. With a little patience and fortitude it is possible to find a natural pain remedy that will do the job of relieving the pain and not affect us detrimentally. "Many years of research and study into alternatives to prescription drugs paid off," said Judy Cutler, a well known nutritionist based in Southern California. "We formulated a spray we called 'Naturally Painless' that gives perfect natural pain relief without any of the side effects that many of the prescription drugs have. The best part of our day is opening the 'thank you' letters from seniors, athletes, and people from all walks of life who have at last found a natural pain remedy that works for them." Author, Judy Cutler, a well-known nutritionist in Southern California and developer of 'Naturally Painless' natural spray-on pain remedy, writes articles on natural pain relief for Real Solution Remedies, Inc. Creative Marketing: Just Your Style

By Sara Pedersen You've enlisted some of the traditional marketing
methods to sell your services: you received some
publicity in your local paper; your website is up and
running; and you're listed in the Yellow Pages. So
why isn't the phone ringing off the hook? Maybe
you're marketing strategies need to get more creative! Creative marketing will allow you to attract new
clients, as well as remind past clients that you're still
around. You'll also stand out from the other
professionals in your field: creative marketing gets
you noticed, enticing people to want to know more about
you! And the beauty of creative marketing is that
there is no one right way to do it. Methods that
work -- and feel comfortable -- for you might not
work for others. Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices
flowing: Staying In Touch Rather than relying solely on the phone to stay in
touch, utilize mail and e-mail. It's fast, easy, and tells
your clients that you took the extra time to think of
them. Send birthday cards on your clients' birthdays, or
better yet, send an anniversary card to celebrate the
date when you first worked with a client. Another great option is to send postcards or
newsletters filled with tips. This establishes you as
an expert in your field. Be sure to include an update
of your current services or any special offers you
have. Give-Aways that Work Everyone loves a little gift now and then. Promotional
give-aways can boost your business by showing
appreciation and offering a reminder that you're ready
to help. Steer clear of pens, notepads, and keychains. Your
clients have enough of those. Brainstorm with friends
and your local advertising specialties representative
to find affordable, unique ideas that represent you
and your business. (Look in the Yellow Pages under "Advertising Promotional
Products" for companies near you.)
For
example, at Time to Organize,
my company found an affordable, colorful travel alarm
clock that can double as a desk clock. Imprinted with
my logo and website address, it's a gift that was
useful to my clients and beneficial to my business.
Remember that memorable and useful items are most
appreciated. Getting Visibility Try to draw a little attention wherever you go.
Depending upon how shy (or flamboyant) you are,
you might try something as simple as wearing your
nametag in public to driving around town with
magnetic signs attached to your vehicle that tout your services. Don't be shy about
tooting your own
horn. If you tend to downplay your strengths, fearing
you'll sound brazen, squash that feeling now! As a
small-business owner, you don't have a marketing
department, so you must be your own loudest advocate!
Making others aware of your products and services is
NOT bragging. I hope these ideas jump start your creative thought
process. I would love to hear from YOU about your
creative marketing strategies. What worked best?

Do Words We Use Really Matter

By Tim Connor I was thinking the other day (No cracks from my friends please.) about the subtle differences between words that are commonly used, sometimes not used or mis-used. Let me give you an example. Im sorry. This simple two word sentence can be interpreted so many ways and have so many different meanings for both the person who speaks them and the person who they are directed toward. - I forget your birthday so I say Im sorry.
- I am late for lunch and I say Im sorry.
- I say something out of anger when I dont mean it, so I say, Im sorry.
- I dont return your call and I say Im sorry.
- You are a sorry person.
- I am sorry you are going through this difficulty. The word sorry has two separate meanings; Apologetic: feeling or expressing regret for an action that has upset or inconvenienced somebody, or is likely to do so. Sympathetic: feeling or expressing sympathy or empathy, especially because of something that has happened, I felt sorry it had to end that way. Don't start feeling sorry for yourself. The words, Im sorry, when used too frequently or too easily can tend to lessen their emotional value as a verbal gesture toward someone else. Theres another way to consider these simple two words. Ever had anyone in your life who never said or didnt have the capacity to ever say they were sorry for anything even though their actions or words certainly warranted this phrase? I have and I can tell you Id rather hear Im sorry too often then not at all. However, often people feel that they need to apologize or say Im sorry for things that dont require these words. In effect many of these people for whatever reason feel that they need to say Im sorry not for the act but for themselves. Lets say I say something stupid (trust me I do that a lot) out of ignorance rather than arrogance or malice. It was just a dumb comment. Does it deserve an Im sorry or a simple apology I didnt mean it the way it sounded or Im just upset and I apologize? My reason or need to say these words, Im sorry or I apologize will depend on both my self-esteem, your emotional reaction to the dumb thing I said and the circumstances under which they were spoken. Heres the point. In relationships sooner or later we all say and do dumb things not out of meanness, but because of stress, frustration, anxiety, fear or any number of other emotions or circumstances or situations. If your partner knows that there was no hurt intended and you have an emotionally stable relationship is Im sorry necessary every time you do or say something really stupid or hurtful? It depends again on what you were sorry for and your real intent behind what you said or did. Socially it can become a real pain in the butt. I play tennis and I can tell you when I play with someone I dont want to have to say Im sorry every time I hit a bad shot. So I have a rule. I say Im sorry one time to my partner at the beginning of the match and then I never say it again. Most people laugh when I give them my rule. Im not suggesting this strategy in your relationships, but you might want to develop some similar tactics or rules regarding this issue so you can avoid any negative outcomes either for its over use or under use. Misconceptions About Weight Loss Surgery Cause Disappointment for Patients

By Kaye Bailey As weight loss surgery becomes an increasingly popular treatment for morbid obesity misconceptions abound. Patients who undergo gastric bypass or gastric banding surgeries are often depressed and disappointed after surgery because they believed the popular misconceptions. Some common misconceptions about WLS:

Surgery brings joy and boundless energy instantaneously
Laparoscopic surgery is painless
WLS is an easy fix and permanent fix to obesity
WLS guarantees happiness
Others will support the WLS decision
After reaching goal weight patients can go back to normal

Because patients read about the joy and boundless energy enjoyed by others after surgery they assume these feelings occur immediately. Joy is felt after massive weight loss, not after surgery. In fact, for many patients the first six weeks out of surgery are emotionally draining as they grieve for food and feel fatigued and disoriented. We read the laparoscopic technique used for 85 percent of all WLS is minimally invasive requiring little recovery time. In truth this technique bruises the intestines, liver and ribs. The surgery is painful and recovery is not as rapid as most patients expect. Patients express feelings of failure when they are sore and exhausted from surgery. For most patients weight loss happens quickly and easily. True to dieting tradition when patients reach goal weight they tend to go back to normal disregarding the high-protein low-volume diet. Weight gain results. Unless patients follow the strict WLS rules daily they regain weight. WLS does not guarantee happiness. In fact, patients commonly describe feelings of anger, bitterness, resentment, panic and self-loathing as they lose weight. They also express happiness, satisfaction, pleasure, delight and self-love. The pendulum of emotions swings wide. Having WLS exposes one to attacks from others who feel entitled to criticize the gluttonous sloth that could not lose weight by eating less and exercising more. Not all people, including spouses, siblings, parents and friends will support the decision for WLS. WLS is a lifetime commitment to an extremely restrictive lifestyle that if used successfully will enable a former morbidly obese person to maintain a healthy weight and diminish the co-morbidities of obesity. It should never be considered the easy way out or a quick fix. It is a lifetime commitment with no returning to normal. Kaye Bailey 2005 - All Rights Reserved http://www.livingafterwls.com

Rockland: Maine's BestKept Secret for A Wedding Destination

By Norm Goldman In 2004 Rockland Maine celebrated its 150th anniversary, yet very few in the past would have ever considered it to be a place for a vacation, let alone a romantic getaway experience or wedding destination.
Perhaps, this is a draw back to the time when visitors would experience the unpleasant whiffs emanating from the SeaPro fish-rendering plant. In fact, it was not uncommon to hear the jingle: Camden by the Sea, Rockland by the Smell. All has now changed in Rockland as SeaPro, along with the towns two sardine-packing and other fish processing plants, have departed along with their odors. There is now a handsome harbor- front with a walking trail extending over four-miles connecting several points of interest as Snow Marine Park, Harbor Park, where the annual Maine Lobster Festival is held, Rockland Fish Pier, Coast Guard Pier, Maine State Ferry Service Terminal, North End wharves, Marie H. Reed Memorial Park and the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse. The latter two are often venues for some spectacular wedding ceremonies. It is also home to The Historic Inns Of Rockland, a consortium of six independently owned inns that are dedicated to historical preservation, as well as providing their guests with a memorable experience within a locale that has reinvented itself as a mecca for the arts and outdoor activities. In addition, three of these inns, LimeRock Inn, Berry Manor Inn and Captain Lindsey House have created a sub-consortium that inter-change and leverage their facilities offering a combined wedding venue that take full advantage of their unique attributes. As all are in walking distance of one another, you can avail yourself of anyone of them for the rehearsal dinner, afternoon bridesmaids tea, wedding reception, and any other functions. The gorgeous outdoor gardens of The LimeRock Inn make it an ideal choice to exchange vows providing plenty of space to move around. The stately Berry Manor Inn with its drawing room, spacious parlor, dining room, and grand stairway, all presenting a Victorian flair, make this inn a most attractive wedding venue. You can even engage the services of Captain Ken Barnes to perform the wedding ceremony. He and his wife Ellen are owners of the Captain Lindsey House. The intimacy of the Captain Lindsey House, that incidentally resembles a European style hotel, along with the Barnes wonderful collection of dcor, relics, and authentic antiques acquired during their many years of travel, will surely provide the wedding guests with some interesting topics for animated conversation. The combined number of rooms of these three inns is twenty- nine, and if you add the other three inns, Old Granite Inn, Waterman House & Gardens, and the Lakeshore Inn, you have a total of forty- four rooms to call upon. All total with roll-aways and cots you could conceivably accommodate about one hundred guests. What is also noteworthy is that all, with the exception of the Lakeshore Inn, are in walking distance of one another. It should be mentioned that the latter is within an easy ten- minute drive from the others. What is also interesting about these inns is their close proximity to many outdoor venues where wedding ceremonies can be celebrated. Here is a sampling: As mentioned above, the Marie H. Reed Memorial Park and the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, is a very popular wedding venue offering spectacular panoramic ocean views of mountains, islands, Penobscot Bay, as well as schooners, island ferries, fishing boats depart and enter the harbor. There is also a small sandy beach leading to the historic Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse. Mt Battie located in Camden Hills State Park offers spectacular views of Camden, Penobscot Bay, and surrounding islands. During the autumn the foliage is breathtaking. If you are in the mood to add a little poetry to your ceremony, it should be pointed out that the famous poet and playwright, Edna St. Vincent Millay, who was born in Rockland, was inspired by the view from the summit of Mt. Battie when she wrote her poem Renascence which opens "All I could see from where I stood / Was three long mountains and a wood; / I turned and looked the other way, / And saw three islands in a bay." One of the most popular venues is the non-denominational Vesper Hill Childrens Chapel, set atop a rock ledge overlooking unbelievable lush gardens. The chapel can seat fifty, however, there are other spots nearby where you can exchange vows that will accommodate a larger party. Dont forget to check out the Merryspring Horticultural Nature Park with its herb and rose garden, the Perennial Border, and the Birds and Bees/Winter Color Garden. In late summer, the 250-foot long annual border is the star of the show, with some flowers blooming well into October. Last but not least are the many lighthouses that attract couples from all over the globe. There is the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, the Owls Head Lighthouse and the Marshall Point Lighthouse In order to reach these various venues and at the same time keep the wedding party together, many couples rent a trolley from the All Aboard Trolley Company. In addition, the trolley provides you with the added feature of having some great photo opportunities. No doubt, with all of these resources available and a little imagination, weddings in Rockland Maine can easily compete with the best of them at any other destination. One last important mention, in most instances it is necessary to contact the officials of your chosen venue in order to arrange a date and time for the celebration of your wedding. A UNIQUE GIFT If you are looking for that special gift for the bride, mother and daughter getaway, mother-in-law, or wedding attendants, the Lakeshore Inn, a member of the Historic Inns of Rockland, offers a reasonably priced Ladies Only Spa Weekend during the months of Mid-October through June. From their arrival on Friday evening until they depart on Sunday, groups of 4 to eight ladies experience a wonderful line up of mind and body presentations with learning sessions with spa treatments that include facial, massage, manicure, pedicure and paraffin wax treatments. In addition, owner Pam Masson serves mouth-watering gourmet meals. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION A great place to pick up some excellent wines produced in Maine is Cellardoor Winery & Vineyards located in nearby Lincolnville. For delicious sandwiches, soups, breads and pastries check out Atlantic Baking Co. You wont be disappointed. Norm and Lily Goldman are a unique husband and wife team, writer and water colorist, who write and paint about romantic destinations. Basically, they meld art and words to create an unusual travel story, which generates interest, particularly because of the fact that each painting appears to have been custom made for the story original story and original art. What Can We Do About Childhood Obesity?

By Bonnie Murphy Have you noticed that every time you open a newspaper or magazine these days there are articles about obesity? Whats happening to our society? Whats causing this epidemic? Andperhaps most alarminglywhy are young people becoming fat? One big problem is that modern life does not initiate movement. We have remotes for everythingfrom garage door openers to televisions, radios and DVD players. Most all of us drive or ride a bus to our destinations. Kids would rather play on the computer or with hand-held games than go outside. Some neighborhoods have become unsafe to ride bikes or go for walksjust another reason for kids to stay inside, watch TV, surfing the internet, or talk on cell phones. Ive even seen kids and moms in a grocery store calling each other on their cell to find out where each other are, rather than walk a few steps and search the aisles! How lazy is that? Some schools have done away with physical education classes. As if that werent bad enough, junk food and soda machines have been installed on school grounds. I was astounded when I read that Anchorage had created a task force to find out what was causing the childhood obesity epidemic. Why didnt they just use their heads or call me? Now, the committee has decided that the junk food and soda has to be taken out of the schools. All I can say to that is a big, fat resounding: Duh!? Our bodies are made for moving. If they dont move, our muscles get sluggish, our cells get rundown and we store fat easily. Indeed, it is all too easy to spot a mover from the sitter! But, there is hope. Dont despair. Dont give up! Instead of wallowing in the negatives of inactivity and poor eating habits, lets look at changing our perspective and our attitudes. How about scheduling some fun outdoor activities this summer as a family? What about an all-day hike with a nutritious picnic lunch? Remember family softball games? How about playing a game of catch in the back yard? Most every community offers a variety of summer activities, such as softball, soccer, swimming and community runs. Even cleaning up the roadside is a productive event in which the whole family can participate. And what about all the wonderful bike trails in Anchorage and the Valley? Make a date with your loved ones and walk or bike a mile or two daily. As you get fitter, youll only want to go furtherdo it! Closer to home, you can make it a game to see how many steps each person takes during the day. You might even want to purchase some inexpensive pedometers that measure how far you walka little friendly competition might be just the ticket to health and fun! Another great way to get your kids involved in more activity is by climbing the stairs in your house. Have little kids count how many steps it takes to get upstairs and then see if its the same number coming down. Have older kids time themselves going up and down the stairs. See if they can cut seconds off their time. Again, some good-natured competition is not only fun but healthy. You should join them, too! Kids are mirrors of their parents, and often follow by example. If a parent is active and involved in activities, the kids will be too! Lead by example. Yet another area in which obesity can be addressed is summed up in the old adage, you are what you eat. Its important to move away from all those ready-to-eat processed foods which contain almost no nutritional value (and are actually breaking the body down) and head instead to fresh, healthy foods. Educate yourself along with your kids to discover which foods honor your body and give you energy. When you choose foods that are healthy and nutritious, youll have more energy and will want to move your body. The combination of the right foods, water, and movement will get you to your ideal weight, rid you of joint pain, increase your energy, and eliminate other health concerns. Not only that, your kids will be well on their way to becoming happy, healthy adults. By CD Mohatta A healthy and good-looking nail is a sign of health and personality. Imagine having tow nails that look thick, discolored and disfigured? Will you like them? But when we don't take care in time that results. After permanent disfigurement, not much can be done. Let us learn about how to prevent and cure the nail fungus. Nail fungus - how does it spread? nail fungus is caused by a fungal infection. Sometimes yeast also causes similar problem. If you can stop this fungus reaching the insides of your nails, you have won the war against the nail fungus. How to do that? The fungus is mostly found in places, which are frequented by people mostly in barefoot. Locker rooms, poolsides etc. are such places. If you want to protect yourself fully, apply an OTC antifungal medication on your toes and then walk out in a footwear. Or apply the medication immediately after returning from such places. Nail Fungus - athletes feet When you develop athletes feet, you have got infection very near your nails. If you don't treat the athletes feet immediately, the fungus will find way to enter your nails. Once the fungus enters the nail, it will spread fast. To learn more about Athlete's Foot, click here =>Athlete's Foot Nail fungus - treatment Treating nail fungus is always a long drawn process. Nail being thick, application of any medicine on it, does not ensure that the medicine will reach the insides of the nails. Oral anti fungals also have difficulty treating nail fungus. Be patient and apply your medication regularly. Avoid using the clipper on healthy nails after clipping the infected nail. Avoid getting pedicures done at salons. Otherwise inquire if they keep their clippers sterilized. Think and implement basic precautions and keep your nail healthy and good looking. This article is only for informative purposes. Maximizing Your Marketing in Just a Few Minutes

By Lee Lister Sometimes marketing is just a case of saying the right thing at the right time. Here's a technique that will spread the word about your company in just a few minutes. How often have you been asked "what do you do?" or "what does your business do?" Want to know how to make a memorable impression when you answer this question? Yes - then perfect your "elevator pitch". This is so called because you should be able to describe what you business does in the few minutes that you spend in an elevator talking to your fellow travelers. Here's the recipe for your elevator pitch: * It should last about 3 sentences max! (don't want to bore people) * It should explain what you or your company does * There should be a small sales pitch in there! * There should be a "hook" in there that begs for more questions. Here's ours.... "I'm the Biz Guru, I own two companies, one in the USA and one in the UK. We specialize in business strategy consultancy, training and book writing." Note the hook - I always get asked about the two companies and because I am a Brit - about the UK and my accent! Try yours out with your friends. Hint if they fall asleep you need to revise it. 3 Marketing Tactics That Will Send Your Sales Through The Roof

By Allyn Cutts When the tide comes in, all boats in the harbor go up... the tough part is figuring out how to bring the tide in. Booming economies come and go and bring surges of profit increases, then ebb to leave behind shortages and tough times. Regardless, there are some business that just seem to weather the tough times with grace, not really affected by recessions. It's almost as though they have a secret source... maybe they do... customers. Hey, customers always buy... in the good times and in the bad times. They still have needs and still make purchases. When you understand their needs and wants, you have the keys to keeping your business afloat when others are grounded. Implement these three tactics successful marketers use, and you're set for success. 1. Just One Customers can be like a two year old in a candy store... they want it all. Yeah, sometimes its hard to make up your mind about what you really do want when everything looks so good. Thats why it pays to promote one product over the others. It spells out loud and clear... IM THE BEST DEAL. That will be the deciding factor in most cases. 2. Make Them Feel Good Customers buy because they want to enjoy the benefits of the purchase. A lady might buy a dress because she wants to feel sexy, or a man will buy a saw because he finds pleasure in creating things. Emotions are the key element that drives purchases. Use word pictures to stir up the emotions that will instigate the sale. Let them feel the benefits, and theyll be more apt to head for the cash register. Put them where you want them. Selling a riding mower? ... the birds are singing, Easter lilies are blooming and kids are flying kites in the wind... spring has arrived. Yep, its time to get out that mower and fuel it up for the summer ahead. How many springs have come and gone since you promised yourself a riding mower? ... Its not hard to paint mental pictures that whet their appetite for the product you are advertising. 3. Make Contact Following up with a customer who didnt buy can be the determining factor between and almost sale and a satisfied, loyal customer. Simply contact them afterwards and let them know the product is still available or offer them further information they may find valuable. Internet marketers can offer free newsletters or reports that consumers find useful and marketers find profitable. Not only do you keep your product in front of the customer on a regular basis, you get email information to stay in contact. Both parties win! Vinegar Remedies - Colonizing Mars and Helping Debased Taste Buds?

By Rebecca Prescott I was reviewing an ebook on vinegar remedies and uses recently, and came across some surprising assertions. Despite the ebook author claiming that vinegar was not a cure all, the list of complaints vinegar supposedly fixed was astounding. Almost as astounding as the rationale behind using vinegar to fix said complaints. Apart from the evils of satisfying one's 'debased' taste buds over nourishing the body - which is apparently the cause of all of modern man's ills. The author suggest we start looking to 'natural resources' that have been used in the days before Christ. Apparently that was a bit of a turning point nutritionally. Anyway, sunshine, water and air aside, its all herbs, honey, and homebrews. These are the antidote to the 'unnatural chemical compounds' that are plaguing us. Hmmm - that must be why we our ancestors lived about double the life span that we do. Oh, I'm sorry, its we who live on average twice as long as our ancestors... It would be lovely if we could explain away the plethora of chronic and acute illnesses that affect so many people. There is no doubt that in some cases nutritional choice has played a causative or aggravating factor in a person's ill health. But people who follow very healthy, natural diets also get sick. People who exercise still have heart attacks. The answer is not always simple, nor is it always to be found by glorifying folk remedies or taking complex Oriental classification systems and treatments out of context. Which is not to say there is not some value, for certain things, in either traditional medicine, or folk remedies. But giving herbal treatments, or folk remedies, the veneer of pseudo science, does not help anyone. The author of this ebook stated that 'a number of outstanding authorities' have proven the 'therapeutic' value of using apple cider vinegar for complaints ranging from obesity to arthritis - without naming said authorities. And the chief rationale behind apple cider vinegar's supposed wide ranging value is that, like apples, it contains Phosphorous, Chlorine, Potassium, Sodium, Magnesium, Calcium, Sulfur, Iron, Fluorine, Silicon, plus many trace elements. And, Potassium. Now, apple cider vinegar may in fact contain all of these things. It certainly does contain potassium, but only very small amounts - about 15mg per tablespoon as compared to 159mg per apple, or 288mg for 10 rings of dried apple. Cider vinegar has no sodium, no magnesium, and about 1mg of calcium and phosphorus. Hardly noteworthy. But that doesn't stop the book promoting apple cider vinegar as encouraging the health of veins and capillaries, and therefore heart health and blood pressure. And whilst we're at it, it helps the blood clot better, though there is no explanation as to this mechanism. By this rationale, tomorrow it will help colonize mars. Presumably in the same mysterious way as it stores the fiber this ebook attributes cider vinegar as having. But just as apple cider vinegar in fact has no fiber - unlike apples - so cider vinegar is not nearly as miraculous or mysterious as the ebook's logic. Vinegar may in fact have promise in cleaning without having to resort to harsh chemicals. And in may also be beneficial for some health purposes. But it does not do nearly as much as is claimed. And by creatively linking it to every ailment imaginable, it serves to turn herbal remedies into a bad joke. Mars anyone? Rebecca Prescott presents practical herbal remedies and naturopathic approaches to health at her website, http://www.vitaminstohealth.com. Examples include this home remedy for a toothache.
