Unless youre clear about it, the journey toward being married could be bumpy at best. Its easy to get caught up in a tension-fraught illusion. Brides can be dragged along by a concept that isnt even theirs. Thats why its important to go over these questions and feel what your particular purpose around your wedding is Is it a sacred event? If so, are their religious rules and expectations that have to be met? Make your minister or priest your friend! He or she is a great resource. Chances are they have already performed a lot of marriage ceremonies. Ask them what they have seen and how it went. Ask for their opinion. These days, even the most religious weddings have some room for personalized vows or a chance to influence the order of the service, the wording, the music, etc. Make sure your clergy person knows about all of the changes you want to make and is willing to support those changes. Some denominations require pre-marital counseling. Some churches will only allow people of their congregation to use the church or synagogue for a wedding. Some churches do not allow a priest to perform weddings outside of the church itself. These are important things to consider before you get your heart set on a certain location. Perhaps you regard your wedding as a sacred event, but you dont fall into any particular religious category. There are numerous sources for spiritual language to incorporate into your wedding ceremony. You may want to examine the traditions of faiths around the world and incorporate some of those elements into your ceremony. You may want to write your entire ceremony yourselves. However, someone has to conduct the ceremony and sign the official documents that your state requires in order for your marriage to be legal. Make sure you find an officiant who has legal standing in your community, and who is comfortable with what you want at your wedding. Is it a casual/informal house or outdoor wedding? Inform the guests ahead of time to any dress rules or particular circumstances that may apply at these weddings. Is it a social affair? Who are you trying to impress? Are you trying to measure up to someone elses wedding? Are you trying to copy something you saw in a magazine somewhere? Are you trying to reflect a feeling? If so, whats that feeling? Are you trying to have the biggest, best, most interesting, most creative, most something anyone has ever seen? Why? Do you think you have to do your wedding a particular way? Have you looked up the etiquette books enough to know that there are endless possibilities for how a wedding is done? - from extremely simple, to extraordinarily complex. Those are some of the reasons for a wedding. What are yours? Take a few moments and write down some key words for yourself. Just jot down whatever comes into your mind as you ask yourself: What is my wedding really about? What do I want to experience on that day? What do I want my groom to experience? These are important questions. And, maybe you can come up with some moretake the time to lay your foundation for your wonderful and loving wedding! The key is to be who you are, accept who you are, and plan a wedding that shows that to the world. However this is 2007, and Israel is a powerful state with advanced weapons systems. As a democracy Israel has also taken on the obligation to uphold civil rights. Since it is situated in a flash point area of the Middle East it will of course be subject to intense scrutiny, in part because wars in the Middle East impact on all of us. How does criticism of the democracy of Israel makes a person anti-Jewish? Not every citizen of Israel is Jewish. About one fifth of the population of Israel is Arab, mainly Muslim. There is a small Christian minority. In addition a percentage of Israeli Jews are non-religious and secular in lifestyle, many of them European immigrants. Some American Zionists assume that due to Israel's unique relationship with the US, the military and political challenges it faces etc, allies should turn a blind eye to problems in the name of solidarity. When activists speak about human rights abuses in Israel, they are doing nothing differently from what they do elsewhere. Amnesty International has reports on human rights violations from every corner of the world. So why is it that when similar human rights issues are addressed in the context of Israel, with some justification, there are those in the Jewish community cry anti-semitism? When a country declares itself to be a democracy and signs international agreements, it also assumes responsibilities and liabilities, especially in the area of civil rights. Ongoing conflict and war is no solution to the problems of the region. It's a lose, lose scenario. With the weaponry that is now coming into play it will amount to reciprocal destruction in the end. Israel must defend its territory as any other nation must, but it should strive equally strongly to address internal issues that will help to boost its credibility in the region and abroad. Criticism of Israel on the part of allies should be regarded as a positive, not as a negative. As long as Israel presents itself to the world as democratic, it better prepare to be judged as harshly as America has been judged under George Bush - if and when such criticisms are warranted. Coin Collecting � Have Some Fun! Build a Lincoln Cent Set For Under $1

By John P. Shields Why do you collect coins? Are you a casual hobbyist or a serious collector? Once in awhile, I have to ask myself just as a reminder. My great uncle gave me a Morgan dollar when I was a kid. Sadly I lost or misplaced it years ago but that was my start. Over the years, I picked up Whitman folders and filled in the slots. I had no plan, objective and really no idea where I was going with this. But I did collect a lot of coins. In the mid-1990s I started buying coins for friends during holidays, birthdays and the like. When this buying and selling grew into a business, there was no time for the hobby. Sure, my personal collection grew but it became more of a numbers game and less of something I enjoyed. Once in awhile I would receive a want-list or special request to fill. I found having to hunt down an elusive piece could become a quest in itself. And that was fun but only for the moment. All that changed when I was asked how long it would take to assemble a circulated set of Lincoln pennies from 1959 to 2000 and only the p & d mints. The request came from a 10-year boy who had a curious interest in coins. Only 84 pieces and the first 10 or so I found in my pocket change. Should be easy, right? The are millions of pennies in circulation. Cant give them away, right? Within the first two weeks, I had acquired all but 22 pieces. When I would be out shopping or stopping at a convenience store, I would ask for a roll or two of pennies. My check-off list of wanted coins was shrinking but I wasnt pleased with the grades of these coins. Surely, a 1995-d could be found that didnt look like it had been run over by a train (only 6.5 billion minted). And the coins I found so far were not the best of grades. I became determined to find a better grade for each. After the 6 weeks, I realized this collection was far from complete. I still had 6 pieces to find and at least 11 to upgrade with better pieces. Each roll of unopened pennies was an unexpected treasure of itself. Sometimes a roll would yield nothing I could use but each and every piece would be examined under a loupe. Usually though, a piece or two would catch my eye. As a coin circulates over time, the plating fades or tones. The patina can add wonderful eye appeal to the coin. For the hobbyist, an attractive coin is worth keeping. That value cant be measured in dollars and sense. Many have been set aside for my personal collection. They just look nice. Finally after almost 3 months, the set of Lincolns was complete. The final grade was fine to almost uncirculated. Some of the older dates were actually in better grades and appearance than others. No, I didnt count how many rolls of cents I opened. Remember it takes time to sort each roll and examining each piece. Looking back, Im surprised it didnt take me longer. Along the way, I did find numerous others interesting coins. Many Canadian cents, a few steel cents mixed in with various wheat ears and several s mints. The most interesting is a 1910 in poor condition. Did I mention all the pennies with errors that I am now collecting? Came from the same roll of cents, too. You just never know what lies inside a roll of coins. It doesnt take a rocket scientist or tons of money to start coin collecting. Just a curious interest and fifty cents to begin. John P. By C. Dakota Creation or Evolution? A question posed by many and only leads to ones personal beliefs. While evolution was posed as a theory and is accepted by faith, it has never been proven or supported by facts hence the missing link or should I say links. Creation on the other hand is not viewed as a theory but tied to religion and is accepted on faith based on the bible. Look around, what do you see? Many of us will see a thousand different things if we look hard enough. Take a walk outside and list all the different things you encounter. Now ponder the things we dont see, such as bacteria, germs, viruses, proteins, atoms, and molecules. What about a strand of DNA? There are thousand upon thousands of things that make up our world and universe. How can every thing we see and know of today have come from a big rock? What was the first organism? How many mutations had to occur for the world to be what it is today? Acceptance that there is a higher power (God) controlling the universe is the difference between those who believe in creation and those who believe in evolution. Another difference is how the two sides perceive life. While evolutionists walk around wondering how to link everything together, the creationist is enjoying the beauty of the world in which we live. Actually it is not but your odds are next to nothing. The same is true with evolution. At least with the quarters all ten were in your hand to begin with, where as in evolution there was nothing really when it began. What Should We Pray?

By Darlene Bishop Prayer is an important aspect of our Christian faith. That's probably why there are hundreds - or thousands! - of books and articles on the subject of prayer. Many of them address the issue of HOW to pray without covering WHAT to pray... what to say when you pray.

As a pastor, it's sad to say that my own prayers bore me at times. My lack of imagination causes me to pray the same things over and over...

"Lord... meet their needs. Draw them to you. Forgive them. Open their eyes. Heal them. Touch them."

While the desire is to see God work - and that's a good thing - there are times when I yearn for more creative, original thoughts when praying.

Here are three things that I've "borrowed" from others whose prayers have touched my heart and reached into my soul. Perhaps they'll help you as much as they've helped me.

Pray the Scriptures.

There are many beautiful passages in the Scriptures that truly draw our hearts toward God. The Psalms, being poetry and songs, especially seem to invite us to let the words become our own.

Psalm 100 has always been a favorite of mine, perhaps because it was one of the few I memorized as a child. But Psalm 51, Psalm 37 and Psalm 24 have also meant a lot to me in times of need and I have prayed them often.

When looking for other passages, the books of Isaiah, Joshua and John come to mind as offering a number of sample prayers. Then there's the well-known "Prayer of Jabez" (1 Chronicles 4:9-10) and of course, Psalm 23 and the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-12) which are classics.

Pray a song.

There are many wonderful hymns that are actually prayers. Select your favorites and sing or recite them to the Lord. But don't neglect newer numbers. Many contemporary songs offer amazing, creative approaches for communing with God.

Bob Carlisle, best known for his hit, "Butterfly Kisses," has recorded several songs that I've personally used as prayers many times. His songs "Use Me" and "Chance I Have to Take" from his debut album had more to do with me accepting God's call to full-time ministry than anything else in my life at the time. The lyrics of these two songs became, literally, the cries of my heart. And God heard those cries and called me to full-time service for Him.

Be careful what you pray for.

Read the prayers of others.

Books of Christian poetry often contain prayers. Or you can visit some wonderful Websites with prayers and poems to help you creatively draw near the Father.

While I'm not a member of the Roman Catholic church, I thoroughly enjoy the idea of praying the Apostles' Creed as many Catholics do. Then there is always the "Serenity Prayer." You can also visit the following Websites for ideas or search Google for "sample prayers" for many other options.

There are many other options for praying, including memorized prayers, silent meditations and simple conversations with God. While prayer doesn't have to contain flowery phrases or uniquely imaginative words, it does help us to put some thought into our prayers so they don't become simply "sounding brass" or "clanging cymbals" in the ears of our Lord.

Gastric Bypass: The Easy Way Out of Fat Land - Right?

Let me tell you what weight loss surgery is really like for me. I am six years post-op. Two nights ago I vomited my dinner (bacon-seared sea scallops and green beans) because it was just a bit too greasy for my sensitive stomach. A week before that I became deathly ill, its called dumping, from snacking mindlessly on Chinese chow mein noodles. Disorientation, hot sweats and then cold chills dumping a dire consequence of eating the wrong foods with the malabsorptive system. This morning, just like most mornings, I walked two brisk miles on the treadmill to begin my day. This evening I spent 25 minutes strength training to maintain my muscle tone, keep my metabolism running high and making damn sure I dont regain one single pound. And this is how it will be for the rest of my life. I will vomit, dump, exercise and be vigilant day in and day out if I want this easy weight loss surgery to work for me. My body does not take weekends off from weight loss surgery. I dont get chocolate cake just because its my birthday. I do not have a double-cheeseburger with fries and a shake just because Ive had a stressful day and I deserve it. My body is on the gastric-bypass plan 24-7. Do you think thats easy? However, one of the most time-honored and ancient of burial customs is that of cremation. The practice of cremation was the most predominat means of corpse disposal until the advent of Christianity in the Roman Empire. There were several reasons why cremation was popular among ancient cultures, and one was that fire was considered a purifying agent that would release the spirit of the deceased in the proper way and allow for a safe journey to their next life. Of course, besides the philosophical or religious properties of cremation, the health benefits of the practice was never in doubt. Disposal of the body in this way eliminated the possiblility of disease being spread by decay. During my dating stint post-divorce, some of which was internet contact, I communicated with an interesting and attractive man. Sooner than later, I learned that he'd been married, and divorced, 5 times. Warning, warning. DANGER, flailing my arms around in robotic pantomime. I ended that direction in short order. Obviously he wasn't good relationship material. I married again. That relationship of 6 years ended with his drug usage and an affair. Sometimes I can be surprisingly dumb for as smart as I am? HE only had one divorce behind him. Maybe I should have asked Mr. Fiver different questions. Third marriage. And to my horror, THIRD DIVORCE. I felt shellshocked. And terribly embarrassed. Memories of my fast judgement of Mr. Fiver came flooding back to me, how quickly I'd axed him without giving him a chance. With three divorces under my belt, I quailed at the thought of being similarly, and immediately, axed without a chance to prove my good character and relationship-worthiness.
